Day Extends Record Breaking Streak

KANSAS CITY (Reuters) - There were few surprises in this year's Eric Cade Memorial Disc Golf Invitational. The defending champ and heavy favorite turned out to be the champion that most thought he was. Many thought last year's performance by rookie Eric Day was nothing more than a fluke.

He proved them wrong.

Day collected a five round total score of +11 to secure his place in the record books. He is the only man to ever win the tournament in back to back years.

Fierce competition lined up around the proverbial block prior to the tournament, which took place on September 18th and 19th, but few showed up to challenge the young thrower. Among those who did, was a determined amateur named David Huffman. Huffmania, a term used to describe his unorthodox style of play, proved to be too much for the rest of the field. With Day firmly in command, Huffman edged out seasoned veterans Jack Joseph and "Boom Boom" Kroeker for second place.

Promoters were tight-lipped about the controversy surrounding the supposed boycott placed by some of the competitors. A handful of top competitors withdrew from the tournament less than 48 hours before the first tee citing unfair scheduling and harassment from the tournament committee.

"I am unaware of any uneasy feelings among the player who chose not to join us." said one of the committee members. "I'm sure they just had better things to do. I know I did."

It may never be known what the outcome would have been had all of the entrants showed, but one man is unphased by such wonderment. After an emotional closing ceremony, a giddy Day was seen tossing his gold-plated trophy into the back seat of his luxury wagon and speeding away from Prairie Center, the final course. The usually reserved countenance gave way to the faint combination of laughter and Bon Jovi as he tore off into the distance. A well deserved release.
