wheels up.

through a simple turn of events (namely, showing up 4 ½ hours preflight so olivia could catch her flight and art and i could wait for ours which was two hours later, and quite easily landing two seats on the earlier flight to newark as well) we are airborne ahead of schedule.*

so now, faced with a paltry 6 hour layover in newark, aka "the place where bad things happen to travelers," we have decided on dinner in new york city. i can smell ray's pizza, already. anyway, it's a nice way to pass the time before the flight to lima later tonight.

well, we're in the air and on our way to lima. i'm excited, but strangely not overwhelmed like i thought i would be. but more on that later. first, i wanted to mention our layover and subsequent trip into nyc. we took a cab into the city and went to the ray's on 8th ave. coincidentally, the kansas-colorado game was on. so, we stayed for a bit. it was at ray's, with two slices of the best cheese pizza in the world in front of me, that i first started to regret my decision to give up soda for lent this year. somehow, lemonade just doesn't cut it.

from ray's, we walked down to times square and over to rockefeller center. olivia has never seen any of that, so it was fun. quickly, we decided it was cold and caught a cab back to the airport. all in all, the best $100 i've ever spent for $5 worth of pizza.

well, gonna try and get some sleep. if all goes according to plan, the next entry will be rife with south american air.

*a good omen. this is, to date, the first and only overseas trip i have taken where not a single thing negative happenend on any flight to or from the destination. history, folks. history.
